This is a video from my talk at WordCamp Montreal in 2013. It’s 80 minutes long. The main focus of the talk is how to use SEO and content marketing to increase visibility and exposure, boost SEO and rankings, enhance personal branding, and so on.
Here are the presentation slides that accompany this video and appear behind me on stage.
SEO for WordPress
The first 25 minutes is an introduction to SEO talk and question and answer period. The conference speaker who was supposed to give an intro to WordPress SEO talk didn’t show up and when the organizers realized he wasn’t coming, they asked me to fill in on the spot. So, I gave an impromptu talk. The actual SEO and content marketing talk begins at the 25 minute point. Also, there was a very brief delay in the middle due to a projector malfunction.
I actually planned for the talk before mine by creating a couple of slides where I was going to say “Ok, just to review the last talk on SEO…” and then go right into my own session on content marketing and SEO. Since the other speaker was a no-show, I ended up using those two slides to guide the first 25 minutes.
Content Marketing and SEO for Bloggers & Companies
I give a walkthrough of the importance of content marketing. I explain what content marketing is in a simple, yet clear way. I then point out its importance in the online world including ideas of guest posts, SEO, becoming a subject matter experts and other relevant topics. This session should guide you toward better content marketing.
SEO and Content Marketing for Publishers
The last part of the video flips the entire content marketing and SEO talk around by focusing on a publisher’s perspective. If you run a blog or online magazine, what are the most important items you need to consider? This could have been an talk on its own and as you see at the end, I almost run out of time! Still, many people told me this was incredibly helpful and I’m thankful for that.
Content Marketing Book
I received so much great feedback from both parts of this talk which I sincerely appreciate. So many people had questions about content marketing that I decided to write a book about it. It should be published by this summer. If you liked the video, you will love my upcoming book “Content Marketing Ideas” and I suggest you sign up to my email list to get privileged info about it.
Session Description
The original program description for the talk:
Within the array of search engine optimization (SEO) strategies, the use of content marketing is among the latest trends being implemented to increase search engine visibility, brand awareness, and conversions. Whether companies are using WordPress as a CMS or to blog, they can take advantage of the SEO-ready aspects that the platform allows for, both natively and through the use of plugins. This is an introductory session that will highlight several important concepts, plugins, and best practices that should be considered when using WordPress as part of an inbound marketing plan. Topics such as guest posting, types of content, linking, web analytics, and social media optimization (SMO) will be discussed.
Comments
Content marketing is hard. I have trouble thinking of what and how I want to do it. Keeping it cost effective is another issue but at least the basics are more like sitting around thinking of ways to go after more customers. That’s when I have time of course. This was extremely helpful. I haven’t seen other video guides like this. You give so much info.
There’s a lot of talk about using SEO and content marketing for personal branding in this video. Interesting and thanks!
Hi Brian!
This is really very awesome guidance. The mix of SEO and Content marketing isn’t something that’s easy to find online. The details here are incredibly helpful. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Learned many new things.
Thank you.
